The River Retreat Experience
Spend time close to nature in the Balule Nature Reserve which is located alongside the magnificent Kruger National Park. Your safari lodge offers a romantic riverside setting and wonderful views of the lush surroundings. There are just four comfortable en-suite rooms with extra-length beds, air-conditioning and veranda’s on which to relax and watch African wildlife at the water’s edge.
Enjoy excellent service and cuisine in between daily activities on your bush adventure in Balule. There is a ranger led game drive and bush walk available to you on a 3 Day River Retreat Package, and you can also self-drive at your leisure on your Big Five safari. The lodge is surrounded by exciting attractions and Lowveld highlights, all within a 90 minute drive.
Day 1: Johannesburg to Balule Nature Reserve
Today you self-drive from Johannesburg to your safari lodge in the Balule Nature Reserve. The journey should take about 6 hours.
Your two night and three day package will be spent relaxing in this romantic setting, spotting game at the riverside, enjoying delicious three course dinners and fortifying breakfasts. Lunch is available on request.
Game viewing activity: Afternoon game drive.
Day 2: Safari Lodge Balule Nature Reserve
Early today, you could take your scheduled game drive or set off on a self-drive photographic safari. You can visit the nearby Tshukudu Game Reserve as a day visitor or head for the nearest Kruger National Park entrances (Phalaborwa and Orpen Gates).
Alternately, you and your family could go horse riding and Elephant back riding in the area, feed Jessica the local tame Hippopotamus and visit Wildlife rehabilitation centres nearby. Perhaps a cultural village visit and sightseeing would be of interest?
Fabulous scenery and historic places can be seen on the Panoramic Route which includes the breathtaking Blyde River Canyon and Pilgrim’s Rest. You could play golf on the unique Hans Merensky Golf Course, where animals often wander onto the greens. There are also many top activities for adventure enthusiasts in the vicinity.

Day 3: Balule Nature Reserve to Johannesburg
Your River Retreat Package draws to a close. This is the final day of your romantic break or family getaway at this lodge in the Balule Nature Reserve.
Enjoy breakfast and a last morning activity of your choice, or just take it easy and savour the beautiful views over the riverside, before you drive back to Johannesburg.
