Game drives at 18 On The Hill traverse both the 8000 ha of Maseke Game Reserve and an additional 3000 ha of Olifants River riverfront in Balule Nature Reserve.
The location of 18 On The Hill boasts a remarkable diversity of habitats and an impressive frequency of Big 5 sightings. Beyond the vehicle, slower, more intentional experiences bring the wilderness into sharp and beautiful focus.

Morning and afternoon guided drives in open 4×4 vehicles across vast Lowveld terrain shared with the greater Kruger ecosystem. Skilled rangers bring the bush to life with sharp ecological insight and an intuitive reading of animal behaviour.
After sunset, a different cast of characters takes the stage. Spotlights reveal nocturnal predators, civets, genets and the ever-surprising theatre of the African night.

On foot, the bush reveals a world invisible from a vehicle, the intricate, the tiny, the unexpectedly beautiful. Accompanied by an armed field guide, these walks offer a slow, deeply satisfying encounter with the wild. Note: guests under 16 are not permitted on bush walks.

Far from city light pollution, the Balule night sky is extraordinary. Guided stargazing sessions and immersive sound experiences encourage you to engage with the bush through different senses at a pace that brings genuine stillness.

Depending on the mood and the moment, dining unfolds in the indoor dining room, on the outdoor deck overlooking the bush, or gathered around the glowing boma under a canopy of stars.
Each setting carries its own character, and the team is adept at matching the atmosphere to the occasion, whether that is a romantic dinner for two or a celebratory feast for a group.

Carefully designed to introduce younger guests to the wonders of the bush, the kids programme fosters curiosity, respect and a sense of wonder. Child-minding services can be arranged prior to arrival.
Please note there are plunge pools in the room, and suites are raised high above ground so children cannot be left unattended.
